Walkabout Development Solutions (WDS):
Registered Under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. Registration Number: RS\ICT\448 of 2005
The NGO was formed in 2005 to handle small projects in remote areas of Pakistan, especially in the Northern mountains bordering Afghanistan and China.
WDS has experience in Response, Rescue and Relief as we were the only NGO that was given a dedicated Helicopter by the World Food Program to launch and implement our "Quake Jumper" program during the 2005 Pakistan earthquake. Our program reached over 150000 people.
Our work over the years, has allowed us to gain insights and access to a number of very remote communities and thus we have managed to win their trust.
We work with and train from within communities and especially encourage women to work with us.
WDS is working to help communities that have potential but lack the abilities or the resources. Simple people who need simple solutions.
Walkabout Development Solutions (WDS):
Nisar Malik
Chairperson
Nisar worked as a journalist for nearly two decades and during this period he covered Afghanistan and Pakistan for the international news broadcasters like ITN, BBC, ABCNEWS and NBC. Nisar was the last foreign journalist to leave Kandahar before it fell to the American forces in 2001.
Nisar has been the driving force behind WDS. His knowledge and exposure to the North of Pakistan is truly extensive and for this reason he was appointed the Emergency Field Advisor to the UN WFP Earthquake program in 2005.
He developed and trained the stand alone "Quake Jumper" response, rescue and relief unit that responded to the calamity and singlehandedly reached 150000 people in need.
Nisar is the CEO of Walkabout Films, a field production unit that has worked on ground breaking series like Planet Earth and showcased Pakistan
All the projects are researched and implemented under the direct supervision of Nisar. The involvement and participation of the locals and the communities is the strength and focus of WDS. Nisar actively visits all the locations and projects, no matter how remote.
Nisar has been awarded the President of Pakistan's Pride of Performance Award for services to Pakistan.
