Walkabout Films (Pvt) Limited
Walkabout Films is a documentary film maker, producing international quality programs that range from natural history to extreme sport, from adventure to climate change and the environment.
Walkabout Films has worked directly with and provided freelance services on projects for National Geographic, Adventure One, The BBC Natural History Unit, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Channel 4.
Having funded a number of development and support projects in the remote areas we filmed in, the need arose to create a professional entity that would take over from Walkabout Films, therefore WDS was formed in 2005 and is still funded by Walkabout Films on a number of projects.

UN World Food Program
Video http://www.wfp.org/videos/pakistan-quake-jumpers
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) assists approximately four million food insecure people in Pakistan annually.
The Food Aid arm of the United Nations does not only save lives in emergencies, it also uses food as an incentive to attract the downtrodden to gain education and healthcare and work to build assets for a better future.
"A hungry man can't see right or wrong. He just sees food."
Pearl S. Buck
WDS developed and executed the idea of the Quake Jumpers - Mountain specialists who would land, assess, develop helicopter landing zone and have relief (food and medicines) delivered to that community in the same day.
The brain child of Nisar Malik (Chairperson of WDS) this unit was so innovative and effective in its delivery systems that the WFP not only funded the operation but also provided a dedicated helicopter and crew to the the Quake Jumpers. |

Penny Wheatley: Donates her Snow Leopard collection for auction.
Penny Wheatley is an award winning sculptor and painter. She has been exhibited widely in prestigious galleries in Britain and abroad. From her life-size bronze sculpture of a British otter, commissioned as a memorial to the naturalist and writer, Gavin Maxwell, she has continued, with other commissions, to make sculptures of other wild animals, both smaller, (table top) and life size to be set in the landscape. Later, moving to live near Newmarket, she made several bronzes of famous race horses.
More recently Penny has concentrated on painting. Several years ago she created a painting of the poet Blake’s mythical Tyger. This large canvas was sponsored by David Attenborough and the London Zoological Society, was exhibited at London Zoo and subsequently very successfully auctioned. Penny donated the entire proceeds to tigers in the wild.
Two and a half years ago Penny wanted to repeat this venture. This time she proposed to donate the entire proceeds of an exhibition of oils, watercolours and drawings of big cats, this time to raise money for Snow Leopards. She is delighted to be able to channel these funds into this exciting new project, Conservation For Life.
The unique nature of the project "Conservation For Life" will be to provide hands on field training to (especially) women and men from within the Snow Leopard corridor.
This training will allow them to become the first line of conservationists and managers who will monitor and collect data as well as manage the range of the Snow Leopards.
Penny's amazing generosity will go a long way in addressing the issue of these endangered animals by affording the locals to benefit and work in their communities and to take ownership of these animals. |
